Griffith aviation students help deliver Wide Bay Airshow More than 100 Griffith University Bachelor of Aviation students will receive valuable field experience through Griffith University's volunteer program as part of this year's Wide Bay Australia International Airshow.
Students Katherine Ide and Joel Cornwell grew up in Bundaberg and are eager for the experience the Wide Bay Australia International Airshow will provide. "I volunteered for the Airshow in 2009 with airside security and had such an amazing time and gained a lot of valuable experience which is what encouraged me to return as a volunteer again this year," Ide said.
"I thought volunteering with Griffith would be a great opportunity to experience the industry first hand and learn the ropes," added Cornwell. Griffith joined forces with the Wide Bay Australia International Airshow in 2007 and has since provided more than 200 student volunteers with experience in areas including airside operations, catering, security and management. "This practicum offers students an opportunity to apply their classroom experiences to real-life situations. Pilots just love to be around aeroplanes and this is a great opportunity to be around a lot of them," said Dr Paul Bates, Associate Professor Griffith Aviation.
"I'm really stoked to have had the opportunity to meet former Royal Australian Airforce Fighter Combat Instructor Matt Hall and share my passion for aviation with everyone else there," said Ide.
Cornwell said he was also looking forward to making connections and networks across the three days, with those already in the industry. The volunteering students will attend a week-long training session in the week prior to the event, to ensure they are knowledgeable of the required safety procedures.
Daryl Cope, chairperson of Wide Bay Australia International Airshow, said: "We are happy to be able to formally recognise our partnership with Griffith MEDIA Release
