Queensland’s Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to providing vital health care to anyone travelling, working or living in Queensland.
With emergency retrieval services operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week the RFDS has expanded to provide regular transfers of patients for life-saving surgery such as organ transplants and heart surgery as well as delivering critical support to those who live in rural and remote areas through a broad range of essential health care clinics and services including general practice, Indigenous health, child and family health, social and emotional wellbeing and women’s health.
Today, the RFDS provides the finest care to more than 70,000 Queenslanders each year – that’s one patient every seven minutes.
The RFDS has had a base in Bundaberg since 2002 which is one of the busiest in the state with nearly 2,000 patients being transported last year alone. The Bundaberg base is one of a network of eight in Queensland, the others being Brisbane, Rockhampton, Townsville, Cairns, Mount Isa, Charleville and Longreach.
The RFDS will have a stall at the show which will be manned by the local volunteer Auxiliary with great merchandise to buy and a raffle . There will be an RFDS aircraft on display (operational demands permitting) so please come along, show your support and help keep the Flying Doctor flying.
Also at the show this year will be a replica Spitfire aircraft, part of the Wings of Life fundraising team. Wings of Life are a group of aviation students who are fundraising for the RFDS so make sure you pop by their site.
While the RFDS receives some Federal and State Government funding, we rely on fundraising initiatives and donations from individuals, organisations and the community to help us raise $5 million each year to purchase and aeromedically fit-out our aircraft and buy or replace vital, life-saving medical equipment.
